Showtime 2011!

Bollington Light Opera Group's Showtime 2011 played 15-19th November 2011 to full houses and was a great success!

There were the usual attractive mixture of musical treats, with a hefty dash of humour thrown in! Selections from “Les Miserables”,  “South Pacific” and “The Boyfriend” were among many delights prepared by the BLOG production team, while the men’s chorus returned with a speciality number which will reminded us why they are often known as “The Crazy Gang”!

"Fiddler on the Roof!" a great success!

Performed at Bollington Civic Hall in May 2011.

Diane McIntyre (Golde) and Craig Harris (Tevye)

“Fiddler on the Roof” is one of the most popular musicals of our time. First performed in 1964, it held the record for the longest running show on Broadway for 10 years. Central to the story is Tevye, a Jewish milkman (and father of five daughters!), living in the Tsarist Russia of 1904, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions, while outside influences threaten to encroach. The 1971 film won three Oscars and made a household name out of Topol, who played Tevye, but this evergreen show is notable for the wonderful music from the songwriting team of composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick, running alongside rich characterisations.

Kalini Kent, made her directorial debut for BLOG, assembled a strong line-up of principals. Craig Harris, an award-winning local actor (left), played Tevye, while Diane McIntyre (left), (Dolly in last year‘s show), took the role of his wife Golde. They were supported by a wealth of talent, with many familiar faces and some who were new to the society, including some very promising young performers! Musical Director was Heather Hayes-Wilson.

The show was another sell out for ever-popular BLOG!

Our May 2010 production was "Hello, Dolly!"

"Hello, Dolly!" is a classic in the world of musical theatre, and at one time was the longest-running show on Broadway. It tells the story of Dolly Levi, and her attempts to find the perfect wife for a wealthy widower, Horace Vandergelder. Dolly uses her wits and wiles to manipulate the situation to her own advantage, drawing a range of characters unwittingly into her intrigues.

Great humour and marvellous music abound in what has been described as the last lavish Hollywood musical of its generation.

Craig Harris, an award-winning local actor, made his directorial debut for BLOG with "Hello, Dolly!", having starred in many recent shows, and assembled a strong line-up of principals.

Diane McIntyre, one of the society's most talented and experienced performers, took the role of Dolly, treading in the illustrious footsteps of the likes of Carol Channing, Ginger Rogers, Ethel Merman and Barbra Streisand, who have all performed one of the most coveted roles in musical theatre. She was supported by the principal cast of Mike Raymond, Tavis Hill, Paul Yandell, Carol Pratt, Rebecca Hart, Nigel Wells, Angela Theobold, Emma-Claire Sheldon and Anthony Davies.

The BLOG chorus, possessors of a fine reputation, were under the leadership of Musical Director Sheila Kent, and the Choreographer is Kirsten Pearson.

Anything Goes! another huge success!

Putting on another show in the week following the Bollington Festival 2009 might have chanced an audience absent through exhaustion! But it was not the case with hardly a seat to be had. Another huge success for this enthusiastic and talented group. It was no coincidence that the final performance was played on the night of the final of Britain's Got Talent. We know where the talent is - it's here in Bollington!

Brilliant Godspell!

The company received a tremendous response for their performance of Godspell in May 2008. This most energetic musical on the life of Christ provided many excellent personal and group displays of singing and acting. Stephen (Jesus) was superbly played by Stephen Clayton and wonderfully supported by David (John the Baptist / Judas) played by Tavis Hill.
