New! Hot News!!

Bollington Brass Band won the prestigious Buxton Festival of Brass yesterday [29th April 2012], with Simon Bastock (Principal Euphonium) picking up the prize for Best Soloist as well. Congratulations to Peter Christian and the whole band!

Championship players!

Bollington Brass Band have in 2011 been promoted to the Championship Section! This is an outstanding achievement - the Premier League of the brass band world.

Bollington has long had a band supporting marches and parades, in fact since Victorian times. The present band was brought to life by Dr John Coope in the 1960s. This band has progressed steadily through the Sections since they first gained promotion from the Fourth Section to the Third in 1988; further promotions followed to the Second Section in 1993 and to the First Section in 2003 before this final promotion to the top level in 2011 under the leadership of Bandmaster Peter Christian (pictured below).

In 2012 the band will be competing against Fairey's and Foden's and other well known bands often regarded as the finest in the world; it's a bit like Macclesfield Town playing in the football Premiership and being in the last 16 in the World Cup (only MUCH BETTER!)

Five members, all five sections!

Equally amazing is the fact that five of the band members (pictured above) will have played with the band in all five Sections – from the left: Matt Berry, Chris Royle, Mike Cheetham, Paul Berry and John Nicol!
