Folk music at the Arts Centre
The group meets on the Second Sunday through the autumn,
winter and spring, meeting at the Bollington
Arts Centre.
Second Sunday
Folk & Acoustic
is one year old this May! It would be great if
you could be there to help us celebrate. Same time, same
place, same good value - Bollington
Arts Centre, Sunday 13th May at 8pm, entrance £2.
On the night the emphasis is going to be on "audience
participation" so bring along your maracas or
anything percussive (dried peas in a Squeezy bottle
that you made earlier, for example) if you have them.
Otherwise, there will be a few shakers that you can
borrow on the night. And musicians, if you have any
songs in your repertoire that lend themselves to rhythmic
backing &/or audience participation, please include
them in your playlist. It would be great to have absolutely
everyone joining in, in some shape or form, to really
raise the Arts Centre roof! In addition, there will
be a special celebratory cake!
Pilgrim's Way, an exciting
young folk band from Stockport nominated for the 2012
BBC2 Folk Awards, will be playing at the Arts
Centre on Saturday, 12th May, supported by some of our own
local folk talent. Starts 7.30pm. Tickets (£8) can
still be purchased from Val & Mark
(01625 574617) or Helen & Malcolm (01625 576844)
or they can be purchased
online from Bollington Arts Centre
.
For more information please phone Mark on 01625-574617.
Review
The inaugural session of Second Sunday Folk was held in
September 2011 and it was a brilliant night, the singers,
the organisers, the hall, and especially the lighting,
wow! Well done everyone, I feel that folk at Bollington
Arts Centre will go from strength to strength, and perfect
timing three years before the Festival 2014! In the picture
below right Jose is not singing, just announcing in her
usual colourful and lively manner!

PILGRIM’S WAY
A three piece band with a big
personality, playing their own brand of folk music,
inspired by some of the most influential bands of the
60’s/70’s folk revival.
BOLLINGTON ARTS CENTRE
Saturday, 12th May 2012, 7:30pm
Tickets: £8.00
Describing themselves as “refreshingly different,
reassuringly traditional”, Pilgrim’s Way is a 3-piece
band from Stockport, with a big sound, drawing
inspiration from the 60s/70s folk revival. They
were nominated for the New Horizons award at the
BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2012. Their self-stated
aim is to "present gimmick-free English folk
of the finest kind".
The three band members, Edwin Beasant, Lucy Wright
and Tom Kitching play a wide range of instruments,
often changing between them many times during sessions,
which enables the band to play a very diverse repertoire
of music. You can hear how they sound on pilgrims-way.net , myspace.com/pilgrimswaymusic or youtube.com .
At the Bollington Arts Centre,
Pilgrim’s Way will be supported by local folk artists.
