Civic Hall and Library
These two facilities are housed in one building at the bottom of Hurst Lane, just off Palmerston Street. Prior to April 2009 the Civic Hall has been owned and managed by Macclesfield Borough Council, and the Library, on the ground floor, has been owned and managed by Cheshire County Council. From April 2009, under local government reorganisation, the two parts of this one building come together under the single ownership of Cheshire East Council.
There is a need to get Bollington Town Council out of their present unsuitable premises in Wellington Road and the general plan is to alter the upper floor of the civic building, the Civic Hall, to accommodate town council offices as well as provide for the needs of the Civic Hall's users. Once these alterations are completed the intention is to hand the whole building over to BIT to manage it, and at a substantially lower cost than is presently the case.
Negotiations for this visionary plan have been going on since 2007 and the problem, as always, has been finance. It is hoped that once Cheshire East Council is in place with overall control of the building and the finance there will be a strong resolve to progress this development to a conclusion.
