Each year the Civic Society has a look at all the front gardens in the town and selects those worthy of recognition. This year there are five categories - House, Cottage, Baskets, Business and Public House.
We judge for Winner, Highly Commended and Commended in each category. We are looking for a well kept front garden or baskets, containing plenty of colour. We look only at what can be seen from the public highway. Judging took place during July and August.
In order to lighten the load on the judges, every worthy property received a small Commended certificate (2006 version left) through their letter box at the time they are inspected and appreciated. The winners and highly commended were chosen later are being re-visited with notification of their success and presented with their certificates.
In 2005 the number of high quality front gardens and baskets was far greater than in previous years and 2006 was an even better year with over 300 properties appreciated. In 2007 we have handed out 400 certificates! As usual the best displays were outstandingly good!
Any one property can only win three times in a row so this year we have admired the Dog & Partridge but it can't be the winner of the pub section for a forth time! However, the excellence of their display is recognised by the award of Premier Display. The same goes to Philip King at 82 Bollington Road who provides an astounding display year after year, and often throughout the year!
