BOLLINGTON COMMUNITY CENTRE

NOW AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES!

The Community Centre is located at the end of Ovenhouse Lane in Bollington. The main hall, kitchen, toilets and heating have been re-furbished with grants from the NHS, WREN, Macclesfield Borough Council and generous contributions from the local community.

The Centre is used as a venue for a variety of regular activities e.g. Luncheon Club, Open House Club, Bingo / Social Club (all weekly), Flower Club, Civic Society, Horticultural Society (monthly).

The Open House Club is a new social club that has been set up for older people in the community. It is held at the Centre every Thursday, from 12 noon to approximately 2.30 – 3.00. The entrance fee is £1 and you can purchase a light snack of soup and a sandwich for £1, together with coffee. Extra tea/coffee will be charged at 25p.

The purpose of the club is to provide a social environment for people to meet up with old friends and make new ones. A programme of activities is planned each month. Recently this has included a general knowledge quiz; guess the tune; old cine films of past carnivals and events in Bollington; an exercise session done either standing up or sitting down.

If you would like to come along you would be most welcome, and if you know of someone who would enjoy this kind of social club please let us know and we can make contact with them and arrange for them to come along.

The club is run by a small group of volunteers but they are looking for more helpers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please give us a call.

For more information please contact: Iris Hall, Tel: 574122 or Carol Banks, Tel: 573672.

The Luncheon Club is held every Wednesday at the Community Centre in Ovenhouse Lane. Coffee is served from 10.30 and a 2 course lunch is served at 12 noon at a cost of £3. If you are interested in coming each week please give Pat Haddleton a call (see below) for more information.

A team of volunteers help cook the meals and serve up. Why not become a volunteer yourself for this very worth while club, you don’t have to be a gourmet cook and we work in teams of 2. Just give Pat a call if you would like to become a volunteer.

The Centre is available for hire for use by the local community for Clubs, Societies, parties, seminars, courses etc. on weekdays and at weekends. In addition to the main hall, there is a well equipped catering sized kitchen and usual facilities. The toilets include facilities for disabled persons.

The Hall can be used as an open area or set out with furniture. Hire charges are currently £9.00 per hour (January 2008).

Enquiries about bookings and offers from volunteers should be made to Mrs Pat Haddleton on 01625-575557, or by email.
