Example Lottery winnings letter

This is an example of the kind of letter you may receive claiming that you have won the lottery, in this case the non-existent Royal Spanish Sweepstake Lottery. It is a complete fraud! NEVER respond to the email or any email address contained within the text. As is often the case with such letters it contains many simple spelling and typographical errors. It also contains a postal address. However, because the letter is fraudulent the address is usually fictitious.

See Crimes of Persuasion for an extensive, but incomplete (because new examples are coming along all the time), list of fraudulent lottery names used in scams. Also note that valid lottery names are also sometimes used for fraudulent purposes. Of course, in such cases the lottery itself is perfectly legal and honest - just their name is being misused for criminal purposes.
