Four years for assault

A 19-year-old Wilmslow man has been given an indeterminate sentence after pleading guilty to robbery and two assaults which he carried out in Macclesfield in one day. He was told at Chester Crown Court on Monday 7th February that he would have to serve a minimum of four years.

In the early hours of Saturday 2nd October 2010 the defendant carried out a robbery on a 19-year-old in Chester Road - during which he stole cigarettes and assaulted him. He then carried out a section 47 assault on 21-year-old man in a house on Bond Street. His victim was treated for head injuries.

He then carried out a section 18 assault on a 39-year-old man in Pinfold Street. The assault resulted in the victim receiving several breaks to his leg and head injuries. He had to be sedated and spend time in intensive care. Police arrested the 19-year-old shortly after the final assault.

Macclesfield burglary charges

Detectives from the Macclesfield burglary team have charged three men with several sneak in burglaries, but say they need residents to help in their fight against thieves by remembering to secure their doors and windows.

DS Tony King said: "We are working hard to continue to drive down the number of burglaries and bring offenders to justice - but we need your help to make it difficult for thieves to get their hands on your hard earned goods and sentimental items by locking your doors and windows."

Currently 30 per cent of burglaries in Macclesfield are committed by offenders sneaking into homes through insecure doors and windows. This is mainly happening while residents are at home.

A 43-year-old man from Macclesfield was charged with two burglaries in the town and 20-year-old from Macclesfield was charged with one burglary in the town. A 44-year-old man from Manchester was charged with two burglaries in Bramhall and one in Wilmslow.

Robbery charges

Following a spate of armed robberies at high quality jewellers premises in and around the east of Cheshire, Congleton CID officers have been in liaison with the Flying Squad of the Metropolitan Police.

This has resulted in the prevention of further offences and offenders being charged with conspiracy to rob Moodys Jewellers in Pillory Street, Nantwich, an offence which was to take place on 27th April in 2009.

As a result of the collaborative investigation 29 men and one woman were jailed for a total of 250 years on 2nd February and 3rd February at Kingston Crown Court.

They conspired to commit a string of highly organised robberies and burglaries across London, the Home Counties, Cheshire and one offence in Antwerp, Belgium and were convicted at Kingston Upon Thames Crown Court throughout 2009/10.

Please be aware and report anything suspicious.
