Incidents in Shrigley Road area

Shrigley RoadAround the end of February 2007 there was an incident in which a man entered the unlocked back door of a house in Shrigley Road. He turned out to be a Polish chap, under the influence, and who worked at Shrigley Hall.

On the morning of 8th March I observed an individual walking up Oak Bank Drive, pushing a red bicycle, drinking from a can, and stopping to look at the individual properties. I waited in Shrigley Road while I called the Police on the non-emergency number. I observed him come down Oak Bank Drive and, pushing his bike, slowly walk up Shrigley Road. He was looking at properties as he went and entered a driveway at Rainow View to take a closer look. He then parked his bike on the pavement further up Shrigley Road and disappeared behind a garden hedge. Two officers arrived, within 10 minutes of my call.

The officers checked the properties by the bike and they found the individual in a house being rented by his work colleague, therefore no offence had been committed. Both were Polish, the one under observation could not speak English but I understand that they both work at Shrigley Hall.

There is no evidence that this individual has committed any particular offence. However, residents do not like to be confronted by strangers in their own homes or to suspect that their homes are under observation. So those of us who live at this end of Bollington, and those who live along the road through Pott Shrigley to Shrigley Hall, should be extra vigilant and keep front and back doors locked.

If you see a stranger behaving suspiciously then please call the police on 0845 458 0000. If you see such a person entering a property then call 999.
