Bantams F.C.

The poem ‘Bantams F.C.’ was written in 1900 by [not presently known]. It records the players in the Kerridge Bantams football team.

Here below you see the kerridge Football team
For during the past season how faithful they’ve been
There is Drabble in goal that needs some praise
For seldom has he let the ball go past his face

There’s Dickens & Sidebottom play the game as backs
People that see them says they are cracks
They kick with both feet till the ball is cleared
Then from the spectators they both get cheered

The half backs are Goodwin Butterworth & Hough
That play the best when the game is rough
Tho this season they have played a good game
Next season we hope they will do the same

There’s Snape & Wright on the right wing
Who make the opponents goal keeper’s hands sting
While Mayers and Green on the other side
Down the left wing does swiftly glide

There’s Hodgkinson who plays centre forward
He is not so very tallward
But he runs down the field in the grandest style
While Jackson his companion waves the rag on the lines
