The Anglican Church in Bollington is very much alive, writes Revd. Veronica
Hydon, and especially looks forward to welcoming newcomers of all ages at
our main Sunday Service at 10.30am at St Oswald's Church. We have a small
play area set aside in church for the use of young children and their parents/carers
during all our services. The main Sunday Service remains a Parish Communion
at 10.30am, followed by coffee/tea/juice/sherry and occasionally cake! But
we now also have a monthly informal gathering at 6pm in St Oswald's on the
Saturday before the first Sunday of the month, where we look at the theme
for the next morning's service and have activities, games and discussions aimed
at younger people on that theme, plus refreshments. On the first Sunday of
the month, there is now a relaxed 10.30am Family Service (which normally
doesn't include Holy Communion) at which children and adults of all ages
are welcome! There is also a short said service of Holy Communion on those
first Sundays at 9am. The first Sunday of each month ends with an informal
service of Meditation and Healing at 7pm.
We also now hold a weekday service of Holy Communion on Thursdays at 9.30am,
after which the church remains open for refreshments, chat, visiting or private
prayer from 10am till 11.30am. Everyone welcome!
The history of the Anglican Church in Bollington is covered in the book by the Revd. R Norton Betts, Bollington Through the Centuries, available from the Discovery Centre.
A modern history of St Oswald's Church, St Oswalds Church, Bollington - the First 100 Years, has been written by Chris Ward and is available from the church and the Discovery Centre.

Church Street, Bollington
Anglican services are now held
in St Oswald's, Bollington Cross, which became the
Parish Church of Bollington after St John's closed in May 2003. The neighbouring
parish of St Christopher, Pott Shrigley, also welcomes visitors at its
services, led by the Revd. John Buckley, who is part-time Priest-in-Charge
there.

This former parish church has been closed since 1st June 2003. Lack of maintenance and an obsolete electrical system have overwhelmed this lovely old Grade II listed building.
Bollington Civic Society are concerned that the town
needs to protect its interests with respect to the future of St John's. See
the special page.
Jackson Lane, Kerridge, Macclesfield SK10 5BE
The Parochial Church Council agreed in May 2008 to close this little mission
church and to join for worship as one congregation at St Oswald's Parish
Church. Following a joint service of celebration at which the Bishop of Stockport
presided on Trinity Sunday 2009, the last service of Holy Communion was held
in Holy Trinity on Sunday 20 September 2009, with celebratory balloons and
a special cake. The PCC is applying to Cheshire East Council for Change
of Use, ready for development as a single dwelling. Subject to this permission
being granted, the building will then be placed for sale on the open market,
on a formal tender basis, through estate agent Meller Braggins.
