Awash with history

The Junior Division of T.S. Ardent, Bollington & Macclesfield Sea Cadets, recently visited the Bollington  Discovery Centre  as part of their ‘Community and Citizenship’ studies.

They were very kindly hosted by Tim Boddington, who took them through the displays at the centre and explained the rich heritage of Bollington.

Cadets then spent some time tracing their family names and looking for pictures of their ancestors in the village in the huge collection of historic pictures. Some extremely interesting cases were found and cadets went home with a much greater understanding of the history and life of the village and their family’s place in that story.

Junior cadets range in age from ten to twelve years, both boys and girls. They meet at St. John’s CE Primary School on Grimshaw Lane, on Monday evenings between 19:15 and 21:30.

If you’re interested in joining the Sea Cadets, contact either Lt. (SCC) David Thickett RNR (Commanding Officer) on 01625 576336 (Unit phone) or 07986 163039 (Mobile) or by e-mail on tsardentco@btconnect.com, or Petty Officer Valerie Thickett (Officer in Charge, Junior Division) using the same contacts.

Thanks to Petty Officer Valerie Thickett for the pictures.
