The second annual Bollington Walking Festival took
place from 21st - 30th October 2011. There was a choice of walks
every day, something to suite walkers of every standard. Look out
for details of next year's Walking Festival!
The
First Bollington
Walking Festival was held from 15th
to 31st October 2010. A selection of 30 walks were available to
suit all interests, landscape, history, etc.
The event was opened by Tricia Penrose (below)
in the presence of those who put so much into the organisation
of this new event for Bollington and a number of invited guests.
Terry Waite CBE
was originally coming to do the honours but most regrettably
he had had to pay a short visit to hospital. A very kind and supportive
message from Terry was read out by our MP, David Rutley. We wished
Terry well very soon and look forward to welcoming him back to
Bollington on another occasion.

Angela Williams, Diane Lomax, Tricia Hodgskiss.
Flowers were presented to Diane Lomax and Tricia Hodgskiss in
recognition of the effort they had put into the organisation of
the festival.
A
competition was held in the run up to the festival to
find a winning name for a beer suitable for walkers! The
winner was Chris de Wet with Route Beer.
A delicious beer so named was brewed by Lee Wainwright's
Bollington Brewing Company and could be tasted at the Vale
Inn!
Chris won the prize of a meal for two at the Vale Inn kindly
donated by Lee Wainwright (right).
Millets Blacks ,
the outdoor specialists, very kindly donated a pair of
fine walking boots to the festival and these were the first
prize in the raffle and won by Shirley Sockett. The raffle
raised £126
to be shared by the Bridgend Centre and East Cheshire Hospice.

Library exhibition
Coincident with the festival there was a small exhibition
in the Library. This was about the history of some of
the local mills, together with a selection of historical artifacts
from Bollington Civic Society's collection. This was been prepared
as part of the walks on Bollington industrial history but could
be enjoyed by anyone during normal library opening hours.
