Cheshire has more gardens and garden centres open to the public per head of population than anywhere else in the country. During 2008, this remarkable horticultural heritage will be celebrated by the Cheshire Year of Gardens ‘08’ - highlighting the range and diversity of the County’s Gardens of Distinction, from the manicured grounds of great houses such as Arley Hall and Lyme Park, to secret and secluded jewels like Hare Hill, Dunge Valley and Mount Pleasant Gardens.

The year will provide interest for everyone, even those who would not normally visit gardens. A wide range of events and activities will include garden tours, special garden openings, theatre and musical performances and food and drink festivals.

As part of the Cheshire Year of Gardens, Cheshire Landscape Trust has been awarded funding to launch the project by planting English oak trees in the Gardens of Distinction, schools and community areas.
