Plant a tree for Bollington!

The Bollington Carbon Revolution is a group of local active volunteers who believe that our town can be a part of the new carbon revolution, driven by the voluntary sector at the local level. We have come together with the over-arching aim of reducing Bollington's carbon footprint.

These web pages provide you with the information you need to reduce your carbon footprint. Please use the links on the left to find the other pages.

At the start of the Industrial Revolution, Edmund Burke made a most succinct remark during his speech on 'Mr Fox’s East India Bill'…

Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing
because he could do only a little
"
Edmund Burke, 1783

This is as true today in the plight of climate change as it was 220+ years ago. Use these pages to calculate your carbon footprint and find information on how to reduce your carbon emissions. If you have any comments, questions, or would like to join our group then please get in touch by emailing us.

We also showed the winning entries in our schools competition for posters and poems. One poem was written as a song and is so good that Arthur Wakefield will be arranging it to music!

Three dozen Bollingtonians attended the Carbon Revolution's first public presentation on Friday 9th November explaining the problems of CO2 and illustration many examples of possible solutions that the audience could take home and try for them selves.

Among the highlights were Rob Palmer (pictured) showing how he saved £3,000 in six months by selling his car and cycling to work and group leader Nicola Riley showing how savings could be made by improving home insulation and changing over to a water meter. Bollington Carbon Revolution publishes its 2007 strategy report.

This report is the product of four months of research into how the Bollington Carbon Revolution can take effect. The research detailed in this document looks at the impacts climate change are predicted to have in Cheshire, and other similar carbon reduction community schemes which are comparable and from which we can learn. It examines what types of action the community needs to take in order to measure and reduce their carbon footprint, and reviews how our voluntary group can structure itself, communicate to the community and obtain funding to achieve our objectives.
