Lowther Street schoolA very short cul de sac was extended when the public housing estate including Harrop Road, Sowcar Way, Turner Rise and Lowther Street was built in the 1960s. Ingersley Court care home was built at the same time.

Lowther Street school is a 19thC building which was owned and managed by a Trust. Once the building ceased to be used for educational purposes it reverted to the Crown Commissioners. The building has been acquired by Bollington Initiative Trust and planning permision obtained to restore the building for use as offices.

The name Lowther comes from the Lowther family whose daughter Maud was the second wife of Thomas Legh of Lyme Hall1.
