David BroadhurstDavid Broadhurst

David has joined the Town Hall team from May 2008. He has lived in Bollington since 1980 with his wife, Polly. His children, Lucy and Tim attended Bollington Cross C.E. Primary. David and his family are keen patrons of Bollington Leisure Centre and have actively supported Scouting and Guiding in the town. He has recently been co-opted onto the board of management at Bollington Leisure Centre.

David was born and brought up in Cheadle Hulme. He then spent three years on the south coast training to be a teacher. He returned to the north-west and set up home first in Macclesfield, then Bollington. David taught in schools in Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Poynton and Congleton. Until retirement in December he was head teacher at Vernon Junior School in Poynton. He retains his links with education through supply teaching and as a consultant on the admissions team at Manchester Metropolitan University.

David is a talented and versatile artist who enjoys working in a range of mediums. Painting primarily in watercolour and acrylic, he also hand builds quirky models in earthenware clay. Additionally David has produced a range of painted boards for installation in play spaces called ‘Playground Pals’.

David is happiest when out rambling in the hills and mountains. Whilst delighted to have the opportunity to ‘bag’ 3,000ft plus Munros, he is an advocate of the peak district where he believes all the wonders of the world are waiting to be discovered, albeit on a much smaller scale!

"Bollington is ideally placed for anyone who likes to work and play," says David. "Transport links to the rest of the country are excellent and we have one of the most accessible national parks in the world on our doorstep. We live in a town that can provide almost everything for its residents, we are lucky to have found such an ideal place to live".

Through his work as Town Clerk David hopes to continue the good work of past clerks by providing councillors, villagers and visitors with quality support and advice.

David wishes to express his thanks to Roger Johnson and the Town Hall team of Jennifer, Linda and Andrea for helping him settle in to his post.

We all wish David great success in the job.

Roger JohnsonRoger Johnson

Roger Johnson retired as Town Clerk in July 2007. He had been in office for three and a half years and said he had greatly enjoyed his time in Bollington, and so did we enjoy having him here! Roger, who lives in Tytherington with his wife Babs, retains a continuing connection with Bollington as chairman of Bollington Brass Band.

Roger was followed in the position by Terry Crosswell but unfortunately Terry resigned in February 2008. Roger very kindly stepped back into the breach and held the fort for a short period while David Broadhurst settled in.
