A very short cul de sac was extended when the public housing estate including Harrop Road, Sowcar Way, Turner Rise and Lowther Street was built in the 1960s. Ingersley Court care home was built at the same time.

Approach off Church Street.

Lowther Street school is a 19thC building which was owned and managed by a Trust. Once the building ceased to be used for educational purposes it reverted to the Crown Commissioners and was converted to domestic units (2012).

The name Lowther comes from the Lowther family whose daughter Maud was the second wife of Thomas Legh of Lyme Hall1.
